After two consecutive years of our Ramadan projects, we partnered up with the Indira Gandhi Children’s Institute in 2024 to support Afghanistan’s largest governmental children hospital. As part of our Healthcare program in the coming years, we are supporting the Indira Gandhi Children’s Institute and providing sustainable aid on the long term for the hospital. Our focus is mainly on combating malnourished children, but we also help other wards within the hospital to make sure every child gets a fair chance for a brighter future.
During our 2024 Ramadan Appeal we were able to raise €15,000 and provide support to over 500 children and their families in the hospital, especially at the malnutrition ward, by giving them cash aid support and helping the hospital furthermore with medical material for the upcoming years.
In May 2024, flash floods swept across multiple provinces in the northeast region of Afghanistan, leaving more than 250,000 people homeless. The provinces most impacted by the flash floods were Badakhshan, Baghlan, and Takhar. These floods followed earlier flooding from 16 to 20 April 2024, which had affected 24 provinces. As part of our Emergency Appeal program, we launched the Baghlan floods campaign within 72 hour and supported a small amount of victims in the Baghlan area with cash assistance.
An estimated 23.7 million people — more than half of Afghanistan’s population — require humanitarian assistance to survive as the country enters its fourth consecutive year of drought conditions and the third year of crippling economic decline, while still reeling from the pre-existing effects of decades-long conflict. According to the INFORM risk index 2024, Afghanistan ranks as the fourth country in the world with the highest risk of humanitarian crises and disasters that may require international assistance.
Following our Turkey trip in 2021, we launched a small appeal in 2024 to provide immediate support to vulnerable Afghan families in several Istanbul areas in Turkey. The focus was mainly on delivering cash assistance, enabling people to meet their basic needs. With a total of €1500, we succesfully supported 15 families.
After the success of our Winter Appeal in 2021, 2022 and 2023, our goal in 2024 is to assist the most vulnerable families in Kabul areas by providing cash assistance and firewood to help them survive the harsh winter months. This initiative will provide critical relief to those facing extreme conditions during one of the coldest seasons in the country.
