After the success of our Ramadan Project in 2022, we decided in 2023 to make it an annual part of our project agenda. During the 2023 Ramadan Appeal, our goal was to assist families in Kabul areas by providing food packages to help them get through the blessed month. With the support of generous donors, we were able to assist nearly 75 families, mostly single mothers with children, ensuring that they could observe Ramadan in peace and comfort during a time of reflection and giving.
In the wake of the three devastating earthquakes that struck Herat province between October 7 and 15, 2023, we launched an argent appeal of €15,000 to support the victims of the Earthquake.
The earthquakes, measuring 6.3 in magnitude, left a trail of destruction affecting 1.6 million people, with over 1,500 deaths, 11,000 injuries, and widespread damage to over 21000 homes and infrastructure – rendering conditions unbearable for communities already grappling with deep poverty and underdevelopment. The survivors, mostly women and children, were mainly living in tents, exposed to the cold, and were in need of water, health care, food and proper shelter.
We were able to assist nearly 250 families by providing cash assistance, food packages and tents. Our appeal for additional donations will support a comprehensive recovery plan together with our local partner organizations to meet the basic needs of the affected people. The plan aims to provide transitional and permanent shelter, rebuild basic infrastructure, provide renewable energy particularly for households, school and health facilities, restore and manage water systems and resources, and create temporary and longer-term jobs and livelihood opportunities.
